Undefeated Streaks and Unexpected Resurrections Define Wild Saturday in College Football

November 8, 2026 • 2 min read

It was a weekend of historic milestones and high stakes across the collegiate landscape, headlined by Utah continuing its march toward legendary status. The number three Utes managed to survive a grueling battle against number nine BYU, securing a 28-20 victory in the 104th meeting of the Holy War. This win marks ten straight victories for Utah, evoking memories of their 2004 run under Urban Meyer. Coach Morgan Scalley, who actually played on that iconic 2004 squad, now finds himself leading an undefeated FBS powerhouse thanks to a versatile performance from quarterback Devon Dampier and a defense that forced four critical interceptions from BYU.

While Utah maintained its perfection, other top contenders had to sweat it out until the final whistle. Number eight UCLA escaped a scare against Minnesota with a 34-20 win, fueled by Ty Dieffenbach’s massive aerial attack and back-to-back long touchdowns. Similarly, number seven Texas relied on the arm of Arch Manning and a suffocating defense to edge past number eighteen Missouri with an identical 34-20 scoreline. Even without key defensive pieces, the Longhorns proved they could handle the pressure of a fourth-quarter scramble to keep their playoff hopes firmly intact.

Elsewhere, Florida State provided one of the most emotional storylines of the day. After parting ways with longtime coach Mike Norvell following a dismal start to the season, the Seminoles turned to former star quarterback Rick Stockstill as interim head coach. The move sparked immediate life into the program as FSU secured a gritty 31-24 road victory over Boston College. It was their first road win since 2023 and featured everything from fake field goals to sheer determination, signaling that there is still plenty of fight left in Tallahassee despite a turbulent year.

Beyond the big names, Saturday delivered several moments of pure absurdity that make college football unique. In one bizarre sequence during the Duke versus NC State game, Andrew Pellicciotta fielded a missed 50 yard field goal attempt in the end zone and returned it all the way for a staggering 109 yard touchdown just before halftime. Meanwhile, dominance reached extreme levels in Division II where Ferris State tied a record with their 40th consecutive win via an 80-0 rout of Wayne State, while Endicott continued an unbelievable scoring tear by dismantling New England College in yet another blowout performance.
